The Alliance for Intellectual Property celebrated British IP Day yesterday, 30th October, by highlighting the power of human creativity, showcasing and celebrating the UK’s creative and IP-rich sectors across every region and their positive contribution to economic growth.

We held our Parliamentary reception, hosted by Pete Wishart MP, and kindly sponsored by DACS and PRS for Music, who are celebrating their 40th and 110th anniversaries this year respectively.

Today The Alliance for Intellectual Property celebrates this year’s British IP Day by highlighting the continuing importance of Intellectual Property to the UK economy and society. It also celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Alliance and all the people who have contributed to its success in campaigning for high standards of IP protection in the UK.

The Alliance for Intellectual Property’s IP Champion Award aims to recognise these efforts by rewarding a person, initiative, service or organisations that help in the protection or promotion of IP. The award is given to the winner each year on British IP Day, normally at a reception on the terrace of the House of Commons.
This year's winner has been awarded to Phil Lewis, Director General of The Anti-Counterfeiting Group.

With the UK's new-found sovereignty following our exit from the EU, trade negotiations are moving at a fast pace. We submitted our concerns over accession to CPTPP to the Commons International Trade Committee, and Lords International Agreements Sub-Committee.

In September 2020, the UK Intellectual Property Office launched a public call for views on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and IP policy. The call for views posed a number of questions on how the IP framework currently relates to AI and the future of AI and IP policy.
